Shalom to my brothers and sisters in Christ! I wasn’t planning to write a post this week, but I felt the urgency to speak on a very serious matter sooner. Halloween: it’s not the innocent, spiritually neutral, light-hearted fun that many believers still think it is; it opens doors to the demonic realm and carries many spiritual dangers for those who participate.
I am writing this post as a serious plea, and I am praying that through this post, hearts will be softened and convicted of the truth. Today’s post is a call to hold fast to the Word of God in all that you do, especially as it is written in Ephesians 5:11: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
I love all my family, friends and sisters and brothers in Christ too much to not speak on this deception and to not shed light on the darkness. Despite what the world, and ultimately the devil, has conditioned so many to believe, Halloween, also known as Samhain, is not just some innocent holiday. It is considered a “holy” day for wiccans and satanists. As Christians, we should carefully consider what we celebrate and whether it truly honors God.
So much darkness is planned on the day we know as “Halloween,” from kidnappings of children to satanic rituals and sacrifices, to witches who plan to curse those who celebrate and take part in Halloween. But please remember that our God is so much greater.
Please do not allow fear to enter your heart, unless it is the fear of the LORD; remember 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” We must remain grounded in our faith, making God’s Word our ultimate authority and making sure we are walking in the light.
To all my brothers and sisters in Christ who are on the fence about Halloween, I am begging you to bring all of this to God in prayer. I am begging you to reconsider partaking in any form of celebration of this day, and instead choose to be in prayer and worship that night and the days leading up to Halloween. This is a very important time to even increase your fasting, to intercede for others who are lost to the deception and those the enemy would try to harm.
Consider carefully what Halloween represents and everything that our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ came to this world to do. He conquered death (Revelation 1:18). He came to set those who have been captive free (Isaiah 61:1). In Him, there is no longer any fear (Hebrews 2:14–15). As it is written in John 8:12, “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”
Now, consider what Halloween is truly about. Halloween at its core is demonic. It glorifies darkness, death, fear and the demonic realm. Research “Samhain” and “Day of the Dead” and their origins. Samhain, also known as the “witch’s new year,” is an ancient Celtic pagan festival with practices steeped in witchcraft and divination. During the festival, people would light bonfires and dress up in costumes to ward off malevolent spirits.
The Bible explicitly says witchcraft, sorcery and divination are forbidden (Deuteronomy 18:10) and that sorcerers are destined for the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8). Many former witches and sorcerers and ex-New Agers who gave their lives to Christ have exposed the spiritual truths behind this day. If you are on the fence about Halloween, I highly encourage you to do some research about its origins and the spiritual implications today.
You will soon see the truth is much darker than mainstream culture has led you to believe. Remember Revelation 12:9, which tells us that satan has deceived the whole world: “So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
It grieves my spirit when I see believers and churches still celebrating Halloween. You cannot dress up evil and try to make it seem good. As it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5:22, “Abstain from every form of evil.” If you truly love the LORD, strive to be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
As followers of Christ, we are called to come out from among the world and be separate (2 Corinthians 6:17). Remember that while we are in this world, we are not of it (John 17:14-16). Jesus should always come first in all that we do when we love Him and truly seek to please Him.
Even satanist Anton LaVey once said, “I’m glad that Christian parents allow their children to worship the devil at least one night out of the year.” You are still partaking in the celebration of a day of darkness; it doesn’t matter if it’s called “trunk or treat” and not “trick or treat.”
Remember Isaiah 5:20, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” As it is written in 1 Corinthians 6:20-21, “Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord’s table and of the table of demons.“
As believers, we should understand the spiritual forces of darkness out there and not even desire to mix with them. Even having children dress up in “innocent” costumes, like an angel, is still mixing with darkness. Christians should not be celebrating Halloween or participating in any of the wicked works of darkness.
As it is written in Ephesians 6:12, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
I cannot imagine how much God must grieve to watch some of his children live in deception and celebrate this day. But He is merciful and loving, so if you are feeling convicted about this day and have partaken in it, turn to Him and repent. Then pray for all those who have also been deceived and please intercede for those who the devil would try to corrupt, and especially pray and fast for all the innocent children.
Instead of partaking in the darkness in any form, let’s come together united in the love and peace of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. Let’s pray fervently, read our Bibles now more than ever, truly allow His Word to renew our minds, and let’s focus on our eternity with Him, not on the world, which is fading away. Remember that anyone who does what pleases God will live forever (1 John 2:17).
With love,
Your sister in Christ
P.S. I am including two YouTube videos at the bottom of this post for you to do further research. The first one is only 9 minutes long. The second one is a very in-depth interview with former witches who were saved by Christ; to save time and to get right into it, the 40:05 timestamp is the best place to start. If you are very short on time, please just watch/listen from the 40:05 timestamp to 1:14:38.
