Life can feel incredibly hard, and every day, countless people are quietly carrying burdens that feel too heavy to bear.
Some are brokenhearted, trying to piece themselves back together after loss. Others may be battling depression, loneliness, anxiety, fear, addiction, and a plethora of emotions or trials that leave people longing for freedom.
Wherever you find yourself today, I want you to know this: you are not alone. In the midst of all this brokenness, there is hope. God sent His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to set the captives free, and that includes YOU.
Jesus came to heal us of our wounds, and He loves us dearly and wants to set us free of whatever is holding us captive. Today, I write this post as an encouragement, to remind anyone who needs it of His promises.
If you feel brokenhearted, those promises are for you. If you feel captive to sin or addiction, those promises are for you. If you feel oppressed, overwhelmed, or weary, those promises are for you. If you are racked with worries and anxieties that feel suffocating, those promises are for you.
Scripture frequently reminds us of His heart toward us:
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)
“He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)
“He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed” (Luke 4:18)
“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” (Isaiah 26:3)
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-29)
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
I remember when I was first seeking God in the middle of my own struggles. There was one verse that deeply resonated with me and led me to tears of hope and joy: “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction” (Mark 5:34).
In that moment, I was reminded that Jesus sees me personally, that He is El Roi (The God who sees me) (see Genesis 16:13). He understood my pain. Most importantly, He offers freedom from that pain if we turn to Him with all our heart, turn away from sin, and let Him be Lord and Savior over our lives.
No matter what you are facing right now, don’t ever lose hope or faith. Healing may not always come instantly, and the road to freedom and victory may feel like a journey, but Jesus will walk that journey with you. God often uses our trials to strengthen our faith and draw us closer to Him.
Until next time, Lord willing, shalom to my brothers and sisters in Christ. May you have a blessed rest of your week and a restful weekend.
