Temporary Peace Versus Eternal Peace

·

3–4 minutes

Every single day, I am incredibly grateful to wake up and finally have found real peace and contentment that is lasting, not temporary.

One’s journey of faith in Jesus and surrendering their life to Him as Lord and Savior will not always be easy, there will be struggles, but it is well worth it. He gives peace that surpasses all understanding, and He will be the calm through all of our storms.

Today, I just wanted to write a shorter post, to give encouragement and serve as a reminder about what (and Who) really matters, even in the midst of stressful times and troubles.

The temporary peace the world gives is fleeting and leaves us filling empty when the temporary highs end. I remember when I was lost in the world, trying to find my value and worth in so many things that just left me empty inside in the end. I talk about this in my testimony of God delivering me from depression in this post. I praise God that I’m no longer in those dark places, that by His grace, I found the light.

“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” –Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

Keeping Our Eyes Upon Him

“Sometimes God will take away something for a season to cause you to truly appreciate it.”

These are wise words from a Bible study I had awhile ago. Ever notice when you aren’t reading the Word daily, constantly praying, and having a heart of praise and worship, that things you thought you were healed from come back, like anxiety, fear and depression?

Well, this has definitely happened to me during my walk with the Lord, and I can testify that the peace of God should never be taken for granted or it may be taken away for a time as a lesson.

Yes, you may be going through a rough week, but don’t let that throw you off your game. Don’t allow your focus to divert to the world; stay focused on Him. We must shift our focus a lot more to Him, especially in this current season.

And, that shift may be hard for some, but at the end of the day, we truly need to prioritize the things that really matter: intimacy with God in prayer and worship, reading and studying the Word, and fellowship with like-minded believers.

Choosing His Everlasting Peace

Sometimes you have to fight against yourself to make God a priority no matter what. Don’t become complacent, turning to binge watching TV/movies, etc., when you are exhausted. There’s nothing wrong with a good movie, but definitely make sure what you are placing before your eyes is good; Philippians 4:8 is a great guideline.

Don’t seek refuge through constantly being on the go to escape from stressors in your life. Busyness not rooted in the Lord will only lead to burnout, trust me. Choose to be Mary, not Martha (see Luke 10:38-42).

Bottom line: Don’t turn to sources outside of God to give you rest and peace. Don’t live by sight (or the flesh); live by faith.

Never take the peace of mind He gives you for granted. Always appreciate it and praise Him for giving you a sound mind. It’s a truly wonderful gift.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” –John 14:27

Until next time, Lord willing, shalom to my brothers and sisters in Christ.
